A PUBLIC INVESTMENT PLAN FOR THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND - CYCLE III

A REVIEW OF THE ECONOMIC STATUS OF THE STATE REVEALS THAT THERE HAS BEEN CONSIDERABLE GROWTH AND DIVERSIFICATION OF ITS ECONOMY IN THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS. THERE ARE, HOWEVER, CONTINUING PROBLEMS RELATED TO LOW WAGE AND GROWTH POTENTIAL INDUSTRIES, THE SKILL LEVEL OF THE LABOR FORCE, AND THE PROVISION OF SUPPORTING FACILITIES AND SERVICES REQUIRED TO ATTRACT AND MAINTAIN MANUFACTURING AND OTHER INDUSTRY GROUPS. POTENTIALS FOR GROWTH ARE SEEN IN THE STATE'S LOCATION IN THE NORTHEAST CORRIDOR, THE RESOURCES OF LAND, BAY, OCEAN, AND EXPANDING TRANSPORTATION PLANT, ITS NUCLEUS OF DIVERSIFIED NEW INDUSTRIES, AND ITS SPECIALIZED OCEANOGRAPHIC RESEARCH FUNCTIONS. SHORT RANGE OBJECTIVES FOR THE STATE ARE DISCUSSED WITHIN A FRAMEWORK OF LONG RANGE GOALS. /AUTHOR/
