Partnership in a Real-time World Use the IT Potential

In the Scandinavian countries it is traditional that operators are invited to tender for bus operation – mostly based on gross contracts. The contracts are elaborated with a series of demands and functional requirements that the operators are invited to submit tenders for. During the following operational period the traffic company currently controls whether the operator comply with the requirements. By the appearance of position technologies (GPS) and Electronic Travel Card we shall be in a position to modify completely the contracts and the division of labor between the traffic company and the operator. This will moreover release resources for research and development and contribute to passenger growth in the public transport. To a still larger extent we shall see partnerships. Due to the fact that IT has become a commodity the IT-equipment in the buses can be implemented as a functional requirement in such a way that the operator may differentiate here. Mentioned modified labor division shall not be without obstacles, and more conditions have to be considered.
