Air Transportation — Value the Network

The views of American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) President Charles Barclay are presented in regard to the air transportation network within the United States. Barclay argues that if goods, services, and entrepreneurs are to be moved effectively through the United States, a modern, high-tech, efficient and comprehensive air transportation system is essential due to the nation's geographic size and distances between markets. Barclay uses the concept of the network in examining issues such as capital funding for airports in smaller communities, as well as having a national Essential Air Service program to connect rural areas to the market-driven airline systems. Barclay also looks at transportation networks in other nations, such as Germany and China.
