THE IMPACT OF COMPUTER TECHNIQUES ON ROAD TRANSPORT PLANNING

A PRELIMINARY SURVEY OF THE ECONOMIC POTENTIAL OF VARIOUS TECHNIQUES FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF ROAD TRANSPORT OPERATIONS IN BRITAIN IS MADE. THE STUDY SHOWS THAT THESE TECHNIQUES COULD PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS IN BOTH GOODS TRANSPORT BY ROAD AND IN PUBLIC PASSENGER TRANSPORT. CASE STUDIES IN THE USE OF COMPUTERS IN TRIP PLANNING ARE PRESENTED, AND THE NECESSARY CONDITIONS FOR PROBABILITY OF SAVINGS BY INDIVIDUAL FIRMS ARE IDENTIFIED. /AUTHOR/
