THIS PAPER REVIEWS THE METHODS AVAILABLE FOR THE ANALYSIS OF REGIONAL ECONOMIES FOR PLANNING PURPOSES. THE MOST IMPORTANT TECHNIQUES (MULTIPLIERS, INPUT-OUTPUT, PROGRAMMING, ETC.) ARE OUTLINES IN SOME TECHNICAL DETAIL, TOGETHER WITH THEIR EXTENSIONS AND MODIFICATIONS. THERE IS A QUALITATIVE DESCRIPTION OF DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY AND ALSO SOME INDICATION OF HOW THE DIFFERENT THEORETICAL APPROACHES RELATE TO EACH OTHER.
