INVESTMENT IN TRANSPORTATION AS A FACTOR OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

THIS THEORETICAL WORK HAS THE OBJECTIVE OF SYSTEMATIZING CONCEPTS AND RAISING POINTS OF DISCUSSION IN WHAT CONCERNS THE PROBLEMS OF INVESTMENT IN TRANSPORTATION AS A FACTOR OF REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT. INITIALLY, THE MANNER IN WHICH THE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS ENTER IN THE WHOLE OF THE ECONOMIC SYSTEM AND THE RELATION BETWEEN INVESTMENT IN TRANSPORTATION AND THE ECONOMIC GROWTH WILL BE PRESENTED IN A SCHEMATIC FORM. THIS RELATION WILL THEN BE CONSIDERED, FROM THE SPECIAL POINT OF VIEW, TAKING INTO CONSIDERATION THE PRODUCTION ASPECT AS WELL AS THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE GOODS GENERATED IN THE PRODUCTIVE PROCESS. IT WILL BE CONSIDERED, IN SUMMARY, THE CONCEPT OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT BY MEANS OF "DEVELOPMENT POLES" AND WHAT ARE THE MORE IMPORTANT CONSEQUENCES OF THESE POLES IN THE ECONOMY OF A REGION. THE PROBLEM OF INVESTMENT IN TRANSPORTATION IS EXAMINED IN THE LIGHT OF THE CONCEPT OF THE DEVELOPMENT POLE. THE ROLE OF THE INVESTMENT IN TRANSPORTATION WILL BE ANALYZED AS A FACTOR IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT. SOME CONSIDERATIONS WILL ALSO BE GIVEN ABOUT THE RETURN OF THESE INVESTMENTS AND THE BENEFIT/COST ANALYSIS FOR THE SELECTION OF PRIORITY TRANSPORTATION PROJECTS. /RRI/
