Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle R&D Plan

Research is underway on plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. One assumption underlying the research is that it would benefit the U.S. to shift motor fuels away from petroleum and towards electricity. The U.S. Department of Energy supports development of hybrid vehicles that can be recharged from standard electric outlets; and can also operate in both electric-only and electrical/mechanical ways. The table of contents lists the following chapter headings: 1. Overview, 2. Functions, 3. Lithium-ion Batteries, 4. Power Electronics and Electric Machines, 5. Vehicle Efficiency Technologies, 6. Grid Interactions, and 7. Manufacturing Technology.
