REFLEKTAS -- Further Tests of a Fast and Reliable Lane Departure Prevention System for Critical Situations

Driver Assistance Systems are designed to enhance comfort and/or safety in driving. Different studies have validated the functionality of Lane Departure Warning Systems and Lane Keeping Assistance Systems, but critical situations have often been disregarded. Particularly for those situations a new assistant system was developed, with which a new category, referred to as Lane Departure Prevention Systems, needs to be established. A simulator study was conducted to test the influence of different adjustments of the stimulus produced by the assistant on a number of parameters of the driver’s reaction pattern. A significant correlation between width and duration of the departure from the lane was found. However, the different assistant characteristics had no significant effect on these variables.
