PART I DISCUSSES TRENDS IN THE BASIC ECONOMIC INDICATORS AND MAKES SOME SHORT-RUN (5-YEAR) PROJECTIONS. ANALYSIS IS MADE OF POPULATION GROWTH, CHANGES IN POPULATION CHARACTERISTICS AND GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION, AND TRENDS IN OUTPUT INCOME AND EXPENDITURES. CONSUMPTION EXPENDITURES ARE ANALYZED IN PART II. AN EXAMINATION IS MADE OF TRENDS AND DEVELOPING REQUIREMENTS BY EACH TYPE OF EXPENDITURE. PRIVATE PRODUCTIVE FACILITIES, URBAN REDEVELOPMENT AND LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT ARE THE GENERAL TOPICS DISCUSSED IN PART III. IN ADDITION TO DISCUSSING RELEVANT FACTORS, THE AUTHORS PRESENT FUTURE NEEDS AND DEVELOPMENTS. DISCUSSION OF PUBLIC FINANCING AND GOVERNMENT EXPENDITURES IS INCLUDED IN PART IV ALONG WITH THE ROLE OF INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC RELATIONS IN THE UNITED STATES ECONOMY. PART V IS CONCERNED WITH THE RESOURCES AND CAPACITIES OF THE AMERICAN ECONOMY. LONG-TERM DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CHARACTERISTICS AND PRODUCTIVITY OF THE LABOR FORCE ARE REVIEWED.
