Portal 2.0: Toward a Next-Generation Archived Data User Service

PORTAL is the official transportation data archive for the Portland metropolitan area and consists of a one-terabyte transportation database and a web-based interface providing a wide variety of performance metrics and graphics designed to assist transportation practitioners and researchers. Originally developed as a research prototype, PORTAL has met its initial goals and is progressing towards a second generation data archive. We describe initial work on the development of the next-generation PORTAL, Portal 2.0. This next-generation data archive improves on the original PORTAL by providing an updated more-intuitive, customizable interface leveraging flash and Google Maps technologies and provides improved data quality monitoring and control.
