Application of Compound Refuse Derived Fuel in Railway Passenger Waste in China

Refuse from passenger trains is becoming a big issue as the railway development in China accelerates. Co-firing is regarded as a promising thermal technology both environmentally and economically in reducing refuse. However, characteristics of co-firing with coal may differ due to varying compositions of refuse. It is a treatment adaptable to railway passenger waste in China to make them into compound refuses derived fuel, and put them into the operating coal-fired boiler in the railway station to co-firing. Through an inspection of emissions concentrations of 9 samples’ mixed combustion, it is found that the best mixing ratio is 30% C-RDF and 70% coal, which provides sufficient air to ensure that CO meets the emission standard. By using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and spectroscopy (EDX) integrated technology, we can observe the size, geometry and elemental analysis of single particle. The single particle which is selected randomly is analyzed with X-ray energy dispersive analysis. Potassium is detected and heavy metals are not detected in EDX analysis of all fly ash particles.
