Stochastic Effects of Capacity Drop and Freeway Capacity on System Reliability

This paper provided an analytical and numerical evaluation of the stochastic impacts of freeway capacity and capacity drop on system reliability for diamond interchanges. Both mean values and coefficient of variation are analyzed for seven parameters that can be used as system reliability indices. It is found that the variability of capacity drop tends to dampen the variability of these parameters while capacity variability tends to increase it.
