Incorporating Delay Effects into Airport Runway Pavement Management Systems

This paper presents an approach to address pavement management decision problems at airports with multiple runways. It relaxes some of the underlying assumptions made in previous studies by incorporating functional interdependencies between runways, and traffic growth into M&R optimization models. A dynamic programming approach is employed. Results from a computational study reveal the interplay between the aforementioned factors and M&R decisions, and reflect the trade-off between present M&R costs and long term user benefits.
