Analysis of Driving Behavior Heterogeneity in Experimental NG-Sim Data Set

This paper aims to assess individual driving behavior from recorded trajectories. To this end,a parsimonious method is proposed to estimate Newell's car-following model parameters at a microscopic scale. I-80 NGSim data analysis shows that at this scale driving behaviors vary from one vehicle to the another. This is in agreement with previous observations. Furthermore, driving behavior variability is appraised here through the minimal spacing and congested wave velocity distributions. Finally, this paper also provides new convincing results about Newell's car-following model ability to accurately reproduce individual trajectories in congestion.
