Analysis of subjective congestion index and its transferability

This paper aims to explore the perception of congestion on signalized arterials in space. Employing the effective measurement of questionnaire associated with dynamic traffic parameters and CCTV images, discriminate analysis was used to construct the rules of a subjective congestion index. To verify the suggested approach is workable in a general network, a transferability model was tested. Finally, a real case study is introduced with further discussion of the details of its applications. It was noted that the conventional rule for congestion level defined in speed is inconsistent with the recognition of the travelling public. The subjective congestion index can be well defined with traffic parameters including flow, speed, and occupancy while applying discriminate analysis. With a small data set, congestion index can be transferred into another spatial area with reasonablegood performance. For the covering abstract see ITRD E140665.
