TRANSPORTATION RESEARCH NEEDS RELATED TO CIVIL ENGINEERING

TRANSPORTATION IS CONSIDERED AS A SYSTEM MADE UP OF A GROUPING OF PARTS, OR SUB-SYSTEMS, OF SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC PROGRAMS. THIS REPORT FIRST DEALS WITH ESTABLISHING THE ROLE OF TRANSPORTATION IN SOCIETY, AND THE INTEREST THAT THE CICOL ENGINEER HAS IN TRANSPORTATION. A PROGRAM OF RESEARCH IS PRESENTED IN CONSIDERABLE DETAIL WITH ESTIMATES OF THE LEVEL OF FUNDING CONSIDERED TO BE NECESSARY IF THE CIVIL ENGINEERING PROFESSION IS TO IMPROVE AND ENLARGE ITS CAPABILITIES TO MEET THE FUTURE NEEDS FOR TRANSPORTATION OF THE SOCIETY. /AUTHOR
