A solution for vehicle location in public transport system

To get location of the transit vehicles with enough accuracy is a basic requirement in Advanced Public Transport Systems (APTS). Generally GPS (Global Positioning System) is adopted as the navigation module. Normally the accuracy of GPS data is good enough for public transport navigation. However, when the buses run within the city, especially in the city centre, there will be blocked areas for the GPS signals. In that case, the GPS modulecannot give correct location data or even will give totally wrong data. To solve this problem, a solution based on Kalman Filtering, Map-Matching and dynamic right is carried out in this paper. The key technologies are introduced, and also the result of each step is shown. It is proved the solution is accurate enough and effective to solve this problem.
