Managing the Operational Risk of Roads - Social Acceptance of Risks and Their Perception
Gestion Des Risques D'Exploitation Routiere: Acceptation Sociale Et Perception Des Risques
In every field and situation, including road infrastructure management, risks exist. People are not always affected and/or interested in risks. Specific risks are completely neglected, considered unavoidable facts of life, while others are selectively focused on. Neglected risks sometimes are suddenly thrust into the limelight, functions of specific events and/or media campaigns. The authors aim to focus on road operations and related risks as they review existing research and provide a general description of factors affecting risk perception. The authors examine acceptability of risk; impact of a major event on the magnitude and social amplification of risk; enforcement/awareness of populations; and human behavior, from common perception to expert assessment.
