Resignalling of Stockholm Metro

Today the Metro system in Stockholm consists of three lines, the Green, the Red and the Blue line, with a combined total of 108 km of double tracks and 100 stations. As the planning of the new signaling system for the Red line has progressed, the general interest in fully automated systems, unattended train operation (UTO) has increased. The new signaling system will be able to handle 36 trains per hour. In a fully automated system without drivers, the existing fleet will be able to run more frequent but shorter, trains, especially during off peak hours.
