RoadNetwork -- A Vehicle-Independent, Cost-Effective and Truly Cooperative Traffic Management and Traveller Information System Based on Existing Hardware and Infrastructure

This paper presents an easy deployable solution and business model for an integrated traffic management and information system. Travelers join the RoadNetwork, possibly anonymously, via an application in a mobile phone, supplying FC-data to a server and receiving individualized navigation and travel information based on computer network routing principles. Since it is the user device, not the car, that is connected, the solution supports co-modal travels and can thus be used to increase the market share of public transport. Road authorities save on investments in detectors and other infrastructure and obtain better data for traffic management, planning and traveler behavior.
