Leveraging the Impacts of Galileo on the Transportation Industry

The goal of this project has been to evaluate the potential and socio-economic impacts introduced by a Galileo-based road tolling system coupled with new services. Combined with other information and communication technologies, the data collected by such a tolling system could also be used in other applications such as to allow for a more optimal use of the transportation infrastructures through better management of the traffic and better management of the supply-chain. In order to fully understand the commonalities between the different applications, the paper first has modeled in detail the several processes supporting these applications as well as their interconnections. The analysis of the objectives and use cases of each application and the setting of relevant performance indicator then allow us to consider and rate several scenarios of service architectures and quantify the socio-economic impact of Galileo on each stakeholder for each scenario. Ultimately, the project aims at specifying the technical platform that will support the selected scenario.
