Innovative Real Time Multi-Modal Passenger Information System for the Attika Region

The paper presents the concept and results for the development of a multi-modal passenger information system on the web for the Attiki Region, Greece. This is an ambitious project which is at the completion stage. The main project’s aim is to collect and process real time and historical data for private and public transport means in order to synthesize dynamic guidance through the Region’s web portal. The main innovation is the use of a dynamic traffic assignment tool, which will exploit the available historical and real time data in order to forecast travel time for the entire urban, peri-urban and interurban road network at very frequent time intervals. On top of that, public transport historical data were collected and maintained in order to calculate public transport alternative routes for the internet users.
