THE MIT MARINE INDUSTRY ADVISORY SERVICE: A CRITICAL REVIEW AND PROGRESS REPORT

A concise, detailed survey of the origins, impact, and future plans of the MIT Marine Industry advisory Service (MIDAS), this report is a useful case study of industry/government/university interaction. Following an in-depth review of the MIDAS Colleqium, whose member industries can participate in a series of workshops with published reports to foster exchanges of knowledge and research needs, the report studies ways to further expand interaction. The MIT Advisory staff hope to join with other Sea Grant institutions to increase research sharing nationally and increase program participation with small companies and with living resource industries. They also plan to solicit more government agency membership and "common interest group" industries to seek out new and/or important directions for applied research.
