Snow and Ice Control Measures on Expressways during the Winter Period

The main purpose of snow ice control of Japanese expressways is to ensure safety driving and not to close expressways due to bad weather (i.e. secure traffic) up to the present. This snow ice control has been carried out to meet the needs of each expressway and the area in the ways of "the collection of weather information (forecast)", "snow ice removal and anti-freezing work" and the "information service". As for the future snow ice control work, more precise information collection and more efficient snow ice control management are needed to ensure safety driving and secure traffic, together with further operating cost reduction.
