Central Signal Processing Unit for Chassis Control Systems

The integration of common functualities into a central control unit is suggested as a solution to the complexity presented by an increasing number of chassis control systems. The design of a Central Signal Processing Unit (CSPU) has to take into account functional and non-functional requirements. This article focuses on the impact of non-functional requirements, outlining the challenges posed and the strategies chosen by Audi to overcome them. Topics covered include software architecture, the internal structure of the overall system, sensor specific blocks, parameterisation and the interface between the CSPU and the chassis controllers. Two stages for integrating a CSPU into the existing system architecture are outlined. This involves deriving an appropriate configuration which can be integrated as a single component into a host control system.
