Cooperative Behaviors for Intelligent Vehicles

This paper will discuss considerations for implementing behaviors in intelligent vehicles that enable such vehicles to form cooperative vehicle systems. The domains of active safety and Dedicated Short Range Communication (DSRC) are converging to form a complex system of intelligent vehicles, which is broader in scope than each of them individually. These technologies represent a fundamental shift in how vehicle-dense societies function; however, the behavioral design of individual vehicles must be considered to understand the system behavior that emerges. This paper will explore some potential vehicle behaviors that will enable the design of cooperative vehicle systems.
