CONTROLLING LOCAL DELIVERY COSTS WITH CARD (COMPUTER ASSISTED ROUTE DEVELOPMENT)

THE REPORT DEVELOPS AND PRESENTS A COMPUTER ASSISTED ROUTING PROCEDURE FOR LOCAL DELIVERY OPERATIONS WHICH WAS DEVELOPED FOR LINEN SUPPLY SERVICES. THE CARD SYSTEM CONSISTS OF THREE SEPARATE COMPUTER PROGRAMS: "ROAD" WHICH DEVELOPS AN ABSTRACT MAP OF THE DELIVERY AREA, "PLOT" WHICH LOCATES THE USERS PLANT AND HIS CUSTOMERS, AND "ROUTE" WHICH USES SIMPLE STANDARD INFORMATION ABOUT CUSTOMERS TO DEVELOP EFFICIENT ROUTING OF DELIVERIES. THE PROGRAM MINIMIZES THE COST OF DRIVING BETWEEN STOPS. THE CARD SYSTEM CAN BE APPLIED TO MOST LOCAL DELIVERY SYSTEMS WHERE THE ROUTES ARE FIXED AND THE CUSTOMERS ARE DISPERSED. THE PROGRAMS ARE PRESENTED GRAPHICALLY.
