DART Drives Auckland Suburban Remodelling

Auckland, New Zealand's suburban rail network is being reshaped through double tracking, electrification, and new lines. These upgrades are core components of the region's 30-year transportation strategy program. Known as Developing Auckland's Rail Transport (DART), the program, agreed upon on June 1, 2006, is valued at NZ$600 million and already has accomplished a significant number of its goals. Planned improvements include a link to the international airport, a freight bypass, a link between the North Island Main Trunk and the Western Line, and a direct connection to the North Auckland line and a planned future branch. A table provides details on suburban rail ridership in the Auckland area.
