INTRAURBAN ACCESSIBILITY

THIS PAPER EVALUATES THE CHANGES, BOTH MACRO AND MICRO, RESULTING FROM THE ADDITION OF A PARTIALLY COMPLETED INTERSTATE NETWORK. IT CONFIRMS THE HYPOTHESIS THAT THE COLUMBUS SYSTEM EXPERIENCED ONLY LIMITED CHANGES IN ACCESSIBILITY RELATIVE TO SIGNIFICANT PERIPHERAL CHANGES CHARACTERIZING THE INDIANAPOLIS SYSTEM. THE RELATIONSHIP OF SHIFTS IN INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL LOCATIONS MAY BE EVALUATED WITH RESPECT TO CHANGES IN THE ACCESSIBILITY SURFACE. THE IMPLICATIONS OF THE ABOVE TO THE POLICYMAKER AND PLANNER WOULD BE OF USE IN ASSESSING THE POTENTIAL IMPACT THAT A NEW HIGHWAY SYSTEM WOULD EXERT ON INDUSTRIAL AND COMMERCIAL DEVELOPMENT.
