SIGNBOARD FOOTINGS TO RESIST WIND LOADS

DRILLED REINFORCED-CONCRETE FOOTINGS ARE USED BY THE TEXAS HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT AS THE STANDARD FOUNDATION FOR HIGHWAY SIGN STRUCTURES. THE FOOTING IS EFFICIENT IN RESISTING OVERTURNING LOADS AND IS ECONOMICAL AND EASY TO INSTALL. THE AUTHORS' DESIGN PROCEDURE INCLUDES EQUATIONS FOR DETERMINING FOOTING DEPTH AND FOR DETERMINING SOIL PRESSURES ON THE FOOTING. REPRESENTATIVE SOIL SAMPLES FROM THE AREA OF INSTALLATION ARE REQUIRED. /ASCE/
