TRIANGULATION WITH SUPER-WIDE ANGLE PHOTOGRAPHS

FOUR STRIPS OF THE SWISS TEST BLOCK OF SUPERWIDE- ANGLE PHOTOGRAPHS, EACH CONTAINING EIGHT MODELS, WERE TRIANGULATED BY AN ANALYTICAL AND A SEMIANALYTICAL METHOD. THE AVERAGE PHOTO SCALE IS 1:70,000 AND THE AREA COVERED IS APPROXIMATELY 3000 SQ KM. DATA PRODUCED BY THE TWO METHODS WERE ADJUSTED BY THE POLYNOMIAL AND SIMULTANEOUS LEAST SQUARES PROCEDURES. THREE DIFFERENT CONTROL CONFIGURATIONS WERE EMPLOYED FOR THE POLYNOMIAL ADJUSTMENTS. IF SEMIANALYTICAL TRIANGULATION WITH POLYNOMIAL ADJUSTMENT IS TAKEN AS A REFERENCE, THEN THE VARIOUS METHODS PRODUCED THE FOLLOWING IMPROVEMENTS, BASED ON RMS ERRORS AT THE CHECK POINTS: (1) ANALYTICAL WITH POLYNOMIAL ADJUSTMENT, 12% PLANIMETRY IMPROVEMNT, 5% HEIGHT IMPROVEMENT; (2) SEMIANALYTICAL WITH SIMULTANEOUS ADJUSTMENT, 21% AND 17%; (3) ANALYTICAL WITH SIMULTANEOUS ADJUSTMENT, 45% AND 54%. ALL RESULTS OBTAINED PROVED SATISFACTORY FOR MAPPING AT A SCALE OF 1:50,000 WITH 50-FOOT CONTOURS. /AUTHOR/
