The Art of Travel

Transportation interchanges - such as rail stations, taxi stands, and bus stops - are as much public assets as are publicly funded roads. They are also places where much travel time is spent while waiting or transferring. While they should be as comfortable, pleasant, and safe as possible, being beautiful, stylish, and inspiring would also help these interchanges. This photo essay presents a number of designs from "10 Years = 10 Buildings: Architecture in a Democratic South Africa," a book convened and edited by Ora Joubert. Selections show interchanges that create more interesting and pleasant travel and commuting experiences through their aesthetics.
