Timing Analysis for Motorcycle Intersection Assistance Systems

This paper analyses typical intersection scenarios with respect to the feasibility of motorbike-based warning or automatically intervening assistance systems to protect the motorbike driver from dangerous situations induced by surrounding car drivers. Based on accident statistics, typical crash scenarios have been identified. The trajectories of the involved vehicles have been modeled realistically, and the resulting scenarios have been analyzed in a simulation environment with respect to a variety of parameters. The potential of motorbike-based assistance systems is assessed, and sensor and environment perception requirements are derived
