Reconnecting Mississippi Coastal Communities through ITS Deployment along US 90

This presentation describes how the Mississippi Department of Transportation is using partnerships with local agencies to deploy Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in the reconstruction of the US Highway 90 corridor along the Katrina-ravaged Gulf coast. This deployment will provide for safer and more efficient corridor operations for the citizens and visitors of the Gulf Coast, and will employ use of several emerging ITS technologies for normal daily operations, planned and unplanned special events conditions, and during the roadway corridor re-construction process. This project is certainly an example of partnered ITS infrastructure deployment that could serve as an excellent example for other similar regions either for emergency restoration, or for an alternate to more common hard-line fiber installations.
