Upgrading Ireland's national road network

The Irish government's strategy for the development of its national transport network includes a 13.3 billion Euro (£12.6bn) investment in the nation's roads. Initial plans were published in the 1990s and the present programmes look forward to 2015. The engineering and environmental consultant Fehily Timoney Gifford (FTG), a long-standing joint venture between Irish consultant Fehily Timoney & Co and UK-based Gifford, is designing parts of the M9 Dublin to Waterford inter-urban route. This article describes the four phases of this project, including the length and size of the sections, and which structural types will be included.
