Revision of the European concrete Standard

The European Concrete Standard Committee has started the process of revising the European concrete Standard, EN 206-1:2000. The Standard will be extended to cover self-compacting concrete. As there is now a European Standard for ground-granulated blast-furnace slag, rules for its use will also be introduced into EN 206. Consideration is being given to introducing the UK combination concept for the use of additions as an alternative to the k-value concept. This article discusses the developments to be included in the standard, particularly self-compacting concrete, the use of additions, aspects of conformity, compressive strength, consistence, and the equivalent durability concept.
