Achieving design requirements [road infrastructure]

Each year governments and the private sector in Australia and New Zealand invest around $10 billion on upgrading or extending road infrastructure. Given the size of this annual investment it is surprising that there has been very little research into the effectiveness of the project delivery process in the road construction industry. There has been virtually none regarding the effectiveness of the construction procurement phase, and particularly the effectiveness of the larger quality assured design and construct contracts that are being used for large projects. This paper aims to stimulate discussion in this area. (a) For the covering entry of this conference, please see IRRD abstract no. E218160.
