ASSESSMENT OF THE COST/BENEFIT RATIO FOR ROAD IMPROVEMENTS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES

RESEARCH IS BEING CARRIED OUT ON THE EFFICIENCY OF FEASIBILITY STUDIES FOR ROAD IMPROVEMENT SCHEMES IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES. THIS PAPER ILLUSTRATES THE FORM THAT THE RESEARCH IS TAKING AND THE LINES ALONG WHICH WORK IS PROGRESSING; IT IS NOT INTENDED AS A FINAL STATEMENT OF THE RESULTS. THE OBJECT IS TO OBTAIN FORMULAE FOR APPROXIMATE RANKING OF PRIORITIES AT AN EARLY STAGE IN AN INVESTIGATION OF ROAD IMPROVEMENT SCHEMES. IN THIS WAY EITHER THE COST OF THE INVESTIGATION CAN BE REDUCED, OR THE RESOURCES CAN BE CONCENTRATED ON THOSE SCHEMES MOST LIKELY TO PROVE WORTHWHILE. /AUTHOR/
