National ITS Strategy For Norway

The National ITS Strategy gives the direction for future use of ITS in Norway, and the role and development of the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) in the digital information society. The strategy sets development objectives for the organization, infrastructure, data basis and services, and for how ITS can contribute in achieving major political National Transport Plan (NTP) objectives. The strategy is based on the major NTP objectives for the 2010 to 2019 period: · Fewer road traffic fatalities and severe injuries and continued high level of safety for all modes of transport · Improved mobility and reduced distance costs within and between regions, to promote settlement and industrial development in all parts of the country · A more environmentally friendly transport system · A transport system accessible to all and which facilitates an active life. The ITS strategy points out some necessary processes and outlines measures for how ITS can contribute in meeting these objectives. A number of policy proposals are also identified. Policy is supplemental to strategy objectives and measures, and the intent of policies is to establish a pattern of action relative to the surroundings and internally within the Road Administration.
