Model Driven Systems Engineering for Developing Cooperative Vehicle Systems

The current requirement focused approach for 6th framework projects like cooperative vehicle information systems (CVIS) offers several drawbacks, among others insufficient stakeholder/end user involvement. In Systems Engineering the focus is moving from a pure requirement driven approach to a blended model where models play a crucial role. A model driven approach could offer substantial benefits in developing traffic management systems. This paper provides some outlines for such a new approach. It is among others based on work done for the Dutch Province Zuid Holland and in CVIS, a European 6th framework program project. The lessons learned should be applied in successors of CVIS in the scope of the 7th framework program.
