Critical Need of the Availability of Data for Amazonia

Necessidade Da Criacao De Um Banco De Dados Para A Amazonia

This paper calls attention to the need for more information about Amazonia and the paper also shows that it would be very useful if such a data set could be easily retrieved by the environmental community. In order to demonstrate the importance of the availability of those data the paper presented a typical application of climatic data to design hydraulic structures in airports. Due to a huge lack of recording rain gages data in the Amazon region the isozones method is still applied there to develop intensity-duration-frequency relationships. Nevertheless, comparing rainfall depths estimated by the isozones method to those obtained by the relation between durations method shows that the isozones method underestimates or overestimates rainfall depths. This emphasizes the need for more and better recording rain gage data.
