AN ECONOMIC APPROACH TO TRAFFIC CONGESTION

A CONSIDERATION OF COST AND DEMAND SCHEDULES AS APPLIED TO THE STUDY OF TRAFFIC CONGESTION. THERE ARE ESTIMATIONS OF TRAFFIC VOLUMES AND THE BENEFITS TO TRAFFIC FOLLOWING ROAD IMPROVEMENTS, AND OF TRAFFIC VOLUME AT WHICH ECONOMIC BENEFITS TO TRAFFIC WOULD BE MAXIMIZED. THE CONSTRUCTION OF COST AND DEMAND SCHEDULES IS DISCUSSED, AND AN APPENDIX INCLUDES THE ESTIMATION OF THE PRIVATE AND CONGESTION COSTS AT DIFFERENT TRAFFIC VOLUMES IN A PARTICULAR NETWORK OF STREETS IN CAMBRIDGE. /RRL/
