John F. Kennedy International Airport Intelligent Transportation Systems Phased Implementation

John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) activity continues to grow with over 47 million passengers, and 1.7 million tons of air cargo serviced in 2006. The number of patrons and employees using mass transit or vehicular traffic to access the airport continues to grow as well. The current redevelopment program at JFK consists of several major projects undertaken by the Port Authority (PA) and its airline and airport partners. Concurrently with the airport redevelopment program, the PA initiated and continues to develop and implement Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) to manage landside traffic at the airport. An ITS master plan has been developed for implementation in three major phases that began with the JFK ITS Early Action Project and continues to address all airport-wide traffic management needs to achieve a full-blown, fully integrated ITS.
