International Comparison on Heavy Congestion Definition for Freeway Based on Psychological Analysis

This paper analyzes heavy congestion definitions on freeway for providing useful traffic information through a psychological analysis of drivers’ heavy congestion consciousness. In the previous paper, heavy congestion on freeway in Japan have been defined by using both average speed and its duration time on the basis of drivers’ consciousness as a result of psychological analysis. This paper further analyzes and compares the heavy congestion definitions for several Japanese inner-city expressway drivers and for English freeway drivers. And this paper fully explores the regional difference of drivers’ heavy congestion consciousness for international argument and competition on ITS.
