Swedish Railfreight: Rivals or Colleagues?

In intermodal transportation, railroads perform the majority of freight haulage. Among European nations, Sweden was one of the first to deregulate rail freight. In the ensuing two decades, there has been a distinct shift - in Sweden and many other nations - from pure rail freight to complete logistics packages and door-to-door services. Efficiency, convenience, and environmental protection are among key elements behind this shift and are discussed by the authors. Swedish and international rail links, including cooperation and coordination issues, are also discussed.
