Determination of Differences Among Household Mobility Patterns

This chapter explores the issue of establishing means by which to monitor changes over time in mobility patterns in response to environmental, social, and economic changes. In particular, the solutions to these topics can be useful in designing panel surveys with which to monitor changes in household mobility levels, providing mobility data for the same household at more than one point in time. Non-random panel samples require knowledge concerning relationships between household and mobility characteristics, so that the sample design will ensure the proper representation of household groups with different mobility patterns.
