Transportation and Mobility in an Era of Transition

This book contains papers inspired by the Conference entitled, "Transportation and Stagnation: Challenges for Planning and Research" which was held December 14-16, 1983, at Zandvoort, Netherlands. The first set of papers (Part 1) deals with trends in transportation and mobility during the early 1980s, focusing on the effects that the economic crisis of that time had on travel patterns and other spatial processes and discussing future developments. The next set of papers (Part II) deals with models and techniques for analyzing spatial and transportation choices and processes, ranging from dynamic approaches to activity-based models and methods with which to analyze uncertainty in predictions. The last set of papers (Part III) deals with planning issues and policy options. The contributions discuss future directions of transportation and land use planning, treating such issues as regulation/deregulation, orientation towards car or public transport, and the need for new infrastructure versus maintenance.
