The Agricultural Industries Transportation Services: Meeting the Transit Needs of Rural Californians

This report describes efforts directed at bringing an end to the unsafe transportation options that agricultural workers face on a daily basis. It describes the Agricultural Industries Transportation Services (AITS), launched by the Kings County Area Public Transit Agency (KCAPTA) in California in April 2002. Focus of the project is to provide safe and affordable transit alternatives for agricultural workers. This innovative transit system, featuring 123 new 15-passenger vans, is a model that can be replicated across the agricultural areas of California and the U.S.
