Top 100 Transit Bus Fleets: Despite Stimulus, Funding Issues Remain for Top 100

This article examines the effects of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, President Obama’s stimulus plan, on the top 100 transit agencies around the country. While 70 percent of respondents to METRO’s Top 100 Transit Bus Fleets survey say they have received funds, the total additional number of vehicles grew to only 867. New York City Transit has the largest number of buses at 4,611, while Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority comes in at number two. The article examines funding issues of several agencies. Survey results provide details in terms of fleet size and type for the top 100 agencies.
