An Empirical Study on Port Choice Behaviors of Shippers in a Multiple-Port Region

This paper, using a Taiwanese port case, proposes and tests a mathematical programming model for port choice that not only takes into account inland freight costs, but also considers the frequency of ship callings. The results show that the proposed model can be used to accurately explain the actual port choice behaviors of Taiwanese shippers.
